My new Kill Your Darlings column is all about the fabulous Inky Awards from Inside A Dog!
Jacob (15) from Queensland, is also an Inkys judge this year. ‘Teens are clearly the right choice to judge young adult book awards because these books were written for them,’ he says. ‘Adults judge adult book awards, so it only seems fair and logical for young adults to judge young adult book awards.'
Voting is now open for the 2014 Inky Awards until 5 October.

Hey Danielle,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your comments about choosing YA texts for YA readers. I believe the gatekeepers need to read your article, especially the driving analogy.
I live in a small town and when my YA book was published a parent said she wouldn't let her daughter read it because it was too risque. However, I knew her daughter was engaging in many of the risque behaviours being explored in my book.
If we don't support YA's with literature, well, then, they're stuffed.
